Configuring a Matter Type

Knowledge Base

The knowledge base is the curated professional know-how your AI assistant draws on when working with matters of this type — the key deadlines, strategy notes and practice points specific to, say, a PCT application. It can build itself from your correspondence over time, and you can read and correct it. A well-tended knowledge base makes the AI assistant markedly more useful, because it answers and drafts with your firm's own expertise in context.

The section has two tabs: Settings (how the knowledge is gathered) and Content (the curated document itself).

Training settings

Training settings, extraction instructions and pending nuggets.

On the Settings tab, turn on Enable knowledge base training to have the assistant learn from the emails you send, distilling reusable know-how for this matter type. The Training instructions box tells the curator what to look for — it comes prefilled with sensible defaults describing what to extract and what to ignore, and you can edit it to focus on what matters to your firm. A word and token counter helps you keep the instructions concise.

Pending nuggets

As correspondence is processed, the curator extracts small pieces of knowledge — nuggets — that wait to be folded into the main document. When some are pending, a highlighted panel shows the count and an Integrate now button. Click it to merge those nuggets into the curated content. Click Save Settings to store your training changes.

Curated content

The curated knowledge document supplied to the AI as context.

The Content tab shows the curated knowledge document — the text the assistant is actually given as context for every matter of this type. It is automatically built from your correspondence, but you remain in control: click Edit to correct errors, add guidance the AI missed, or reorganise it into clear sections such as an overview, key deadlines and strategy notes. Because this document is injected directly into the assistant's context, keeping it accurate and well-structured pays off in every AI interaction.

Note

Knowledge base training learns automatically only when enabled. If you would rather write the content yourself, leave training off and edit the Content tab directly.
