Unbilled Time

Unbilled Time is a firm-wide list of every time entry that has been recorded but not yet put on an invoice. It's your billing worklist — the pool of work waiting to be turned into revenue — and the sidebar keeps a running total of what it's worth.

Opening Unbilled Time

Click Unbilled Time in the sidebar. The label itself shows the running total of unbilled value across the organisation — for example $86,175 — so you always have a sense of how much work is waiting to be billed without opening the list.

Every unbilled time entry across the firm, with the amount each is worth.

The columns

Each row is a single time entry, drawn from every matter in the organisation:

  • Date — when the work was done.
  • Matter — the matter the time was recorded against.
  • Description — the narrative for the work (e.g. "Preparation of national phase entry instructions (US, EP, JP)").
  • User — who recorded the time.
  • Duration — how long it took (e.g. 1h 15m).
  • Rate — the hourly rate applied.
  • Amount — the value of the entry, being the duration multiplied by the rate.

You can sort, filter and search the list like any dashboard table, and export it to CSV using the toolbar icons — useful for a billing review.

How it feeds invoicing

This list is the starting point for billing. Time is recorded against individual matters as work is done (see Time Tracking), and every entry that hasn't yet been invoiced flows into Unbilled Time. When you raise an invoice on a matter and include its time, those entries are marked as billed and drop off this list — and the sidebar total falls accordingly.

That makes Unbilled Time a live picture of work-in-progress value: it grows as time is recorded and shrinks as invoices go out. Reviewing it regularly helps you catch time that's ready to bill before it ages.

Tip

A steadily climbing total is a prompt to invoice. Sort by Matter to see which files have the most unbilled work, then raise invoices to clear them down.
