Roles & Contacts
Roles connect the people and organisations involved in a matter to the parts they play — applicant, attorney, inventor, client and any others your matter type defines. Assigning roles keeps the right contacts to hand for correspondence, invoicing and document generation.
Viewing roles
The Roles section lists each role in Role, Contact, Email and Phone columns — for example Attorney — Marcus Jennings or Applicant / Client — NovaTech Industries Ltd. Click a contact row to open and edit that contact's details. The same key contacts appear in the Key Contacts panel on the matter Overview.
Assigning contacts to roles
Click + Add Role to open Manage Roles, where every role type for the matter is shown with its own selector. Search for and add a contact to any role, or remove one — a role can hold more than one contact where that makes sense (multiple inventors, for instance). Save to apply your changes.
Which roles are available comes from the matter type — see configuring roles.
Creating a new contact
If the person or organisation you need isn't in your contacts yet, click + New Contact from within Manage Roles. Enter their details and, when you choose a role in Assign to Role, the new contact is added to the matter in that role as soon as you create it.
A contact can be a person or, using the Entity / Organisation toggle, a company or other non-person entity. You can also capture email and phone, street and postal addresses, tags and notes.
