General

General settings cover the basics of how Cadence IP presents itself to your firm: your organisation's name, how dates and times are shown, the light or dark theme, a set of behaviour preferences, and your personal hourly rate for time entries.

General settings, reached from the Settings sidebar. The tabs across the top are General, Billing, Behaviour and Tags.

Organisation and locale

The General tab holds organisation-wide basics:

  • Organisation Name — the name of your firm as it appears throughout the app.
  • Date Locale — the regional convention used to format dates (for example, day-month-year versus month-day-year).
  • Date Format — the exact style dates are written in.
  • Timezone — the timezone deadlines, timestamps and the calendar are shown in.

These apply to your whole organisation. Click Save Changes to apply them.

Appearance

The Appearance card switches Cadence IP between Light, Dark and System themes. This is a personal preference for your own browser — it changes how the app looks for you and does not affect anyone else in the firm. System follows whatever your device is set to.

Behaviour preferences

The Behaviour tab controls a handful of app-wide conveniences and safeguards. These apply to everyone in your organisation.

Behaviour preferences — confirmations, link handling, duplicate-name blocking and calendar filtering.
  • Open table links in a new tab — open matters from list rows in a new browser tab instead of the current one.
  • Confirm step changes — ask for confirmation before moving a matter to a different workflow step.
  • Confirm task completion — ask for confirmation before marking a task done.
  • Calendar: upcoming deadlines only — hide past deadlines on the calendar so only what's ahead is shown.
  • Prevent duplicate matter names — block creating two matters with the same name, guarding against accidental duplicates.

Tip

The confirmation toggles are on by default. Turn them off once your team is comfortable moving matters and completing tasks quickly.

Your hourly rate

The Billing tab here sets Your Hourly Rate — the rate used to calculate the value of time you record. This is personal to your account: each user sets their own rate, so entries you log are valued at your rate while a colleague's are valued at theirs.

Your Hourly Rate is per-user and drives the amount on your time entries.

Enter a number and click Save Changes. See Time Tracking for how this rate is applied as you record time.
